The Aniblog Tourney: Tatakae Blogaking!

Tatakae! Tatakae! Tatakae! Tatakaeeeeee! TATAKAE OTAKIIIIING!!!

So I recently heard about this little project called the "Aniblog Tourney." It's a tournament that pits 96 anime blogs against each other, with readers voting for the winners in simple one-on-one votes. The creators kindly included Ani-Gamers in the tournament, and for the first round (April 26) we're up against Anime Full Circle. This would be the part where I write something nice about Andrew over at Anime Full Circle and wish him the best of luck in the contest, but my shōnen instincts have taken over, so instead, I'm just going to say "YOU'D BEST BE READY TO OTAKU MAN UP, ANIME FULL CIRCLE. MAY THE BEST BLOG WIN!"

But in all seriousness, I'm excited to be a part of this contest, and I hope you'll all vote for Ani-Gamers on the Aniblog Tourney site when our voting bracket starts next week on Monday, April 26.

That's about it. Head after the break for an inspirational video to get your blood pumped for the upcoming bloodbath ... I mean friendly contest!

Bloggers of the Roundtable, in sweet video glory

You've read our blogs and heard our podcasts, but now you can watch me and all of my blogger cohorts make fools of ourselves in real life at our "Bloggers Roundtable" panel at New York Anime Festival 2009. The entire panel was captured by Anime Diet's Moritheil, so head on over to their site to watch the video. It was a pretty fun panel, even though we were scheduled opposite the Cosplay Masquerade, resulting in lackluster attendance. What really surprised me about it, however, is that we managed to move from very basic, pseudo-self-promotional discussion to some quite interesting conversations with the audience about blogger-reader expectations and the importance of comments in the general anime discourse.

The panelists include the writers from Anime Almanac, Anime Vice, Anime wa Bakuhatsu da, Manga Worth Reading, The Gaming Dungeon, Manga.About.com, Ogiue Maniax, Reverse Thieves, and Subatomic Brainfreeze. Oh, and Ed Chavez, previously of the MangaCast (now Marketing Director at Vertical, Inc.), comes up to the panel partway through to contribute his own thoughts and opinions to the conversation.

The Golden Compass "Asset Wrangler" Blog

The Golden Compass A few days ago, David Allen, Asset Wrangler for SEGA, published the first post on his IGN blog in which he talks about his experience on the set of New Line Cinema's newest epic fantasy, The Golden Compass. Allen talks about being the Asset Wrangler (it means he collects information about the movie to relay to the game developers) and shows some behind-the-scenes pictures and stories about his job. It's an interesting read for anyone interested in either this movie or game development.

I am, of course, a huge fan of The Golden Compass and the trilogy it belongs to, His Dark Materials, written by British writer Philip Pullman. (That's why I ran this story) The movie's game looks interesting so far (as far as movie adaptations go), and I'm looking forward to trying out the Alethiometer mechanics in-game. (Its that truth-telling compass that main character Lyra carries around) The game releases on all current-gen platforms as well as PC and PS2 on December 4 in the US and 7 in the UK.

Bad Movie Games? I think not

Granted, most movie games are really badly made *cough* Spider-Man *cough*, but a few are actually good. This site explains which ones and why they are good. Some favorites include GoldenEye and the Chronicles of Riddick. [via AMN]
